SEMINAR CORNER  for Applied Mathematics, Statistics and Computing graduates.

Time: 17:45 till 19:40, every Thursday
Place: room F207, University of Science (US), 227 Nguyen Van Cu str., Dist. 5, HCMC
        The initial base:
The core theme will be Algebraically and Statistically Modeling of various problems in
computing, operations research, finance, economics, computational biology, experiment designs ...
The research seminars focus on using Mathematical and Statistical Techniques to handle/solve practical problems.

        Feassible developments:
Here are some detailed project proposals towards a Master degree in Applied Mathematics and Statistics.
Depending on the project content, from February 2009, you could apply for working toward

                   * a  Mathematics and Statistics based degree at the Mathematics and Computing Fac. of US, or

                   * a Computer Science based degree at CSE - HCMUT

For interesting but challenging topics, it is possible to have dual advisors.
If you are good (technical, English and communication),
the change to work with a foreign professor is high!

                   Project 1
: (Algebraic Statistics
Algebraic Coding of Fractional Factorial Designs
Remark: would be a nice work if you are very good in Algebra
Dual advisor: from Math Fac. of Politecnico di Torino – DIMAT,  Torino, Italy

                   Project 2:  (Data Analysis)
                                    Density Estimation From Interval Data
Remark: would be a nice work if you know a bit of
polynomial computing, PCA (principal component analysis), CFA (confirmary factor analysis) ...
Dual advisor: from FPT Univ., HCMC, Vietnam

                   Project 3:  (Mathematical Biology)
Compartmental models of the Spread of SARS
Remark: would be a very beautiful but tough work, require a little Partial Differential Equations
Dual advisor: from Garvan Institute of Medical Research, Sudney, Australia [to be confirmed]

Project 4: (Methods for Design of Experiments)
Number Theory Methods for the Construction of Hadamard Designs
Remark: would be a sophisticated work, requires Algebra, Combinatorics and Programming
Dual advisor: from Montana State University, USA

                   Project 5: (Statistical Optimization)
                                    Methods for Dynamic Project Control
Remark: requires statistical formulation and simulation. Good and tough work!
Dual advisor: from  DIMAT,  Torino, Italy
